Since the second half of last year, there have been a lot of rumors about Google’s Cheaper Pixel 3 Lineup. From the Russian technology blog Wylsa’s suspected real machine experience, to the information of anonymous sources obtained by the Japanese economic news Nikkei Asian, these seem to confirm that the Google Pixel series is expected to usher in a new member positioned as a mid-range machine. However, its name may not be what we thought was Google Pixel 3 Lite and Google Pixel 3 XL Lite. According to media XDA Developers, the official names of the two mid-range machines may be Google Pixel 3a and Google Pixel 3a XL.

Devices such as ‘sargo’ and ‘bonito’ have appeared on the web multiple times, both in Google ARCore’s device profile database and in the database of GeekBench or other benchmark software. Now they also appear in the code for the Android Q Beta 1 beta.

In the Connectivity Monitor application, XDA also found a category that lists the Pixel models and their corresponding code names, such as the initial Pixel and Pixel XL codes corresponding to ‘sailfish’ and ‘marlin’; Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is ‘walleye’ and ‘taimen’, inferring that the codes ‘bonito’ and ‘sargo’ may refer to the fourth generation Pixel model.

If there are no surprises, this is Google Pixel 3a and Google Pixel 3a XL we are talking about today. The news indicates that the small size of Google Pixel 3 Lite (Google Pixel 3a) is expected to be cheaper than Apple’s “affordable” phone, the iPhone Xr, which starts at $ 749.

At present, Google’s share of the global smart-phone market is not large. According to research firm IDC, the Pixel series shipped about 4.68 million units in 2018, with a market share of approximately 0.33%, and 2017 is worse, shipments were about 3.9 million units, accounting for 0.2% of the market. The Google Pixel 3 Lite (Google Pixel 3a) series, which is cheaper, is expected to change Google’s sales in the smart-phone market and further expand the reach of its Google services.

According to the information compiled by XDA, the specifications of the mid-range units of the two Pixel series are as follows:

Google Pixel 3a features a 5.56-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 2220 x 1080, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 chip, 4GB of storage and 32GB of storage, a 2915 mAh battery, a 12 megapixel rear-single camera, a Type-C interface, and 3.5mm audio interface.

As for the large-size Google Pixel 3a XL, there are very few rumors about its hardware specifications, only currently knowing that it may be equipped with a 6-inch FHD+ screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chip. It’s unclear whether the two mid-range phones retain the camera features or other features that Google Pixel 3 has. It is reported that these two new Google pixel machines may be launched at the Google I/O conference held this year.
